As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not that impressive in the kitchen. But I am definitely working to change that. In my ongoing quest, I’ve turned to cookbooks to help inspire me and above all teach me how to be a better, more confident cook. I recently began reading the Smitten Kitchen blog and when I noticed the author had a book out I purchased it right away. Her tone on the blog is light, fun and approachable. This is what immediately drew me in. She begins each post with a personal anecdote giving the reader some insight and an appreciation for the end result. (I love her post about Polish cuisine.)
There is nothing stuffy or fancy about the blog (or the book for that matter) because all her recipes are made in her tiny 42 square foot kitchen. This especially gives me hope because our current kitchen in our rental is probably just a smidge bigger, so I have no excuses. I’ve only skimmed the book (the intro alone already has me hooked) but so far it’s very similar to the blog with funny stories, lovely photos and the friendly voice of the author, Deb Perelman, the sweet friend who pushes you to cook your little heart out in the nicest way possible. Any aspiring cooks out there have some tips to share? I’d love to hear them!
