I travel quite a bit with my kiddos and am always on the hunt for items that will make our travel journeys smoother (because as we all know traveling with little ones can definitely be challenging!) One item that has long been on my list is the JetKids BedBox. So what is it exactly? It’s a ride-along suitcase and built-in travel bed, all in one! Bringing a toddler on a flight means bringing a lot of items to keep that little human as occupied as can be during travel so having a place to put all those items is key. And if you’re traveling on a longer haul flight then having a fairly comfortable place for your little one to nap is also critical. Enter the BedBox: this item solves both these problems with ease. So here’s the 411 on this revolutionary product that has been a total game changer for our travels.
The BedBox is the perfect place to store toys and snacks and because of its unique design, doubles as a place for your toddler to hop on and ride throughout the airport. My daughter is 3 and is at the perfect age to use both features, she can pull the suitcase herself or hop on if she wants to take a break and ride along instead. She loves to pack it herself and bring her favorite toys and other trinkets. (It also comes with an array for colorful stickers so your child can personalize the suitcase as they wish.)
But the feature that really sold me on this item is its ability to convert into a travel bed on the plane. As we all know, plane seats are not the roomiest and finding a place for your child to sleep is a struggle. The BedBox converts from suitcase to an extension for the airplane seat that transforms your seat into a mini bed for your little one. The actual maneuver is quite simple, you place the suitcase in the space between the edge of your seat and the back of the one in front of you, pop on the top upside down and slide out the plastic extensions. Then you simply layer on the included foam mat and side bumpers and voila! And an instant bed is born.
Having a place for your child to stretch their legs and rest is invaluable. Trust me, an overtired child is not fun when traveling (I have been there and do not want to go back ha!). We used the JetKids BedBox on three round trips so far, twice for domestic flights and most recently on our long (16 hour!) journey to Europe and it was a huge help! My only wish is that I’d had one (along with an extra seat) for our younger daughter! My 3-year-old was able to comfortably stretch her legs, watch some movies and even sleep for several hours (something she has never been able to do before we started using this!) Like I said, it really is a total game changer for all our current and future travel plans!
From what I’ve read, there are some airlines and/or airplanes that might not allow use of the BedBox but thus far on three different airlines (Southwest, Delta and United) we’ve had zero issues. Because the BedBox fits all the parameters of a carry-on suitcase it can easily be brought on board and it also will fit in the area below the seat in front of you for easy storage and access once the plane has reached its cruising altitude. I can totally see using this product from kids as young as 1 (like my younger daughter) to 3 (like my oldest) and beyond. It’s a welcome addition to our travel arsenal and even when my daughters outgrow the bed feature, it makes a great little suitcase for them. At about $150, I know the price point isn’t cheap, so I feel that there is incentive to use it well beyond the toddler years as well which makes it more appealing in my eyes.
Long story short, if you’re looking for a suitcase for your little one that is multipurpose then seriously look no further. I know there are a ton of suitcases on the market for toddlers but none that are as versatile and handy as the JetKids BedBox. I highly, highly recommend this item for all the traveling families out there! Happy flying! For more information about the BedBox, visit their site here. 🙂
